The Canadian Rogues were originally formed in 1964 from two Lakeland, Florida area high school rock & roll bands, the Echoes and the Playboys. Charter members Willie Metts, Dane Streets and Ronnie Harrell were the core of that legendary group and toured the southeast until 1969 when college and the draft finally sounded an end to the band. It would be almost 20 years before the Rogues would re-emerge.
1n 1984, the same three founding members of the original Canadian Rogues were reassembled to do a Lakeland High School Class Reunion. The fire was once again lit. As fate would have it, Willie Metts (the charismatic lead singer of the band) died tragically in 1996 and the group had to find other means of musical support. Former Bellamy Brothers guitarist and hit songwriter, Carl Chambers was recruited into the band as musical director and retooled the group to take advantage of Ron Harrell’s vocal talents. Ron’s talents exploded when introduced to the spotlight. Chambers also brought Rodney Price, former drummer with both the Bellamy Brothers and the Ricky Skaggs organizations, on-board and later bassist, Donnie Helms (also formerly of the Bellamy Brothers) to round out the all-star rhythm section.
In 2001, the Rogues recorded and released their first CD, “Still Rockin'”. They are currently working on a follow up offering.
In 2006, Ashley Metts, the daughter of the late Willie Metts, joined the band and brought back much of the charisma and excitement her father had originally provided the organization.
In 2012, Ashley Metts and Ron Harrell moved on to other pursuits and vocalist Shauna Solomon and vocalist and guitarist Hart Hogan were hired to fill the void. Also in early 2012, Paul Bugnacki joined the group as bassist. The band now had the flavor of the Willie Metts era with more emphasis on R&B and the hits of the 80’s.
Today, the Rogues bring a variety of traditional rock & roll and R&B stylings to the table combining the hits of the late fifties, the sixties, the seventies and a touch of the eighties.
